…blog entry for work

I’m starting to see the first signs of winter both here in Winter Park and at the resort. The tiny sheet of ice on my windshield in the morning, a fog that hangs so low in the morning and covers my view of the mountains on my drive to work, and the busy whirr of the facilities and operations crew erasing all traces of the summer season from the resort base to make room for winter crowds.

And so, a thick anxiety hangs in the air while we all wait for the snow to show up, and welcome in another season of winter here in the valley. And with the reports of La Nina weather ahead, word is this winter could be one of the best yet. All that snow…all that powder.

Powder, powder, powder…that’s all I keep hearing about. I suppose I’ll have to update when I find out just what all the talk is about. I guess I can add that to the list of anxieties I already have about my first winter as a Colorado citizen. Right up there with “what if it’s so cold I can’t start my car?” and “what on earth do I wear to work in -50 degree temperatures?” and “should I start filling my pantry apocalypse style now, or after the first time I can’t start my car?” It’s all just, so much.

But in all seriousness, I couldn’t be more excited to put on skis again, and most importantly making my dream of learning how to snowboard a reality. Besides, for my job I get the lucky duty to tell people all about why they should visit Winter Park and all the new things we have at the resort this year. Just call me the bearer of GREAT news here. However, this in turn is causing an equally distracting, bothersome anxiety for me; excitement. Along the lines of “so what happens if I spend my whole paycheck on hot chocolate, ski rentals, that new Thai place in the market, etc.?” and “how possible is ‘calling in sick’ to ski when…” Okay well obviously that one’s impossible.

<New stuff that no one reading this cares about detailed here…except we are getting a liquor store called “Sips” on site, and needless to say…that excites me.>

Are you excited yet? I am. Hopefully I’ll see you soon here at Winter Park Resort (I’ll be the one begging for money because I spent my whole paycheck having too much fun).
